  《老人与海》

It took me a week to read a book encouraging morale, called "the old man and the sea". I greatly admire, San Diego, the old man, if you read the story below, maybe you would like me to admire him.

Cuba, San Diego, the old man has nothing for eighty-four days, eighty-five days, with blessing and bait is stubbornly sailing out to sea again, he will go to deep to catch a big fish. This time, he met a pair of feet was eighteen feet long and is greater than he, he told the big silver fish (marlin) filled with admiration and respect, at the same time, the more aroused the determination to San Diego to challenge it. Big fish and the old man silently confrontation, sometimes take the ship to the deep sea, alternately circling boats, and want to use set off waves of the boat upset... Old man and big fish fight for two days and two nights, in the process, he constantly and fish, birds and sea dialogue, constant to or when they remember past events. 英语名著读后感2

This summer holiday,I made a good friend --- Robinson though ‘ROBINSON CRUSOE’. ‘ROBINSON CRUSOE’is a classical masterpiece which attracted me very much, and brought me much enlightenmet.I really lerned a lot of things from the eternal opus.

The ‘ROBINSON CRUSOE’have been authored by famouse English writer---Defoe. It’s about dramatis personae Robinson who met a frightful wind while he sailed on the sea. He was the only survinal, but he drifted to a uninhabited island. He bravely struggled, industriously worked and combated with barbarians. Robinson lived alone on the island for 28 years. He experienced many difficulties and dangers.

Robinson was a great person, he conquered countleand unimaginable hardships. If I stayed on a lonely island, I absolutely couldn’t vanquish dangers. I maybe would lose confidence for life. I respect Robinson very much, he is a real hero in my heart.

He lived on the island for about 30 years without any food, tool or habitation. He must depend by himself. Robinson wasn’t afraid of hardships, he had the fortitude spirit .He was brave in adventure and was good at labor. He used his head and hands to struggle all the time. I admire his courge very much, because these were not easy, work at all.

In fact, we also need the spirit of being undefeatalle indefatigable.

Like Robinson. If we believe in ourselves, never give up and do we best, we must be successful!

Robinson was a great miracle, he achieved mumerous. ‘impossible things’. ‘Robinson Crusoe’ was an immortal novel, because it gave us a courageous, intrepidity, diligent, indefatigable and wise ordinany person, a vanquish nature, a hero who exploited nature. The book is a really excellent adventuresome novel,

There is no perfect life in the world, but we can change our fate. If we have confidences and work hard, we absolute will be victorious, and the most important thing is ‘Never give up!

  Little Prince

This is a fairytale whose distribution volume is only second to The Bible. It’s been translated to versions of many other languages. And I gather there must be something special, something really great about it. It’s this conviction that drove me to read it at the first beginning. Well, with due respect to the author, I failed to see how this fairytale be worthy of our attention, despite the fact that many readers claimed this book to be designed for adults.

Anyway, as a well-acknowledged book, it must possess unique feature to maintain it’s position. And it’s reputation and popularity will by no means be destroyed by what an unknown man says. I will talk about the main contents of the book, and the inspiration it renders as usual.

This book mainly tells us the experience of a prince from a tiny planet, who traveled to many other planets and finally came to the earth and met the pilot in a desert. The prince and the pilot became good friends, and the pilot gradually got to know the feeling and experience of his friend. Before he came to the earth, little prince had been to other 6 little planets where he made acquaintance with some strange people. The first man he met was a king on a little planet, yet he claimed to be the king of the space and ridiculously justified his unshakable governance over all. The second person was a man of vanity, who enjoyed compliments of any form without considering whether it’s sincere or not. The third person was an alcoholic who tried to forget the fact that he’s addicted to acohol by drinking like a fish. The fourth person was an abosolute money-oriented businessman, who cared nothing but his fortune. Next came the lamp-lighter who performed his duty blindly. The last one was a geographer who knew too much about geography to solve a real problem related to it. These six people each represented one kind of person like us. The author satirized people’s conceit, emptiness, fakeness, innocence and blindness through the tone of a child.

I see eye to eye with the author in that the cause of people’s loneliness can be concluded to the negligence of the bonds that connects them. People are supposed to care about each other, cherish what’s really important for them, and be grateful for the happiness that they’ve gained. We all believe knowledge and experience enable us to see clearly and make right judgements all the time. But we may sometimes lose the right to speak straighforwardly, think creatively or love courageously resulting from what we’ve experienced. That why in our middle school textbooks, it’s the little kid that breaks the illusion of the emperor by saying ”but mum, he ain’t were anything”.

When I was a child, I was definitely a good boy who went home on time after school and did his homework and never tried anything without mom’s permission. And now I am a grown-up, and still I am a good man, at least, that’s what I heard. Sometimes when I was lonely and I began to think about my childhood, then all the happiness and care-free

life came back to me as it were yesterday. Kids that once accompanied me during my childhood now become fathers and mothers of their kids and I myself am a child no more. Thinking about all these things have made me moody. There’re changes happening in our lives whether we are happy about it or not.

People told me life is a journey which will never stop once it’s started. What’s left behind are happiness and sorrow, pride and shame, success and regret. There’s good old time to reminisce and there’s sad hours that reminds us of the pain. Your feeling makes them real, and you know you lived.

I want to conclude by saying some positive words that each yestersday used to be today, and each today is the future of yesterday, so making the most of today is the best way to cherish your lives. Our mortal beings are doomed to die. It’s not sad, instead, death it’s just a process of our lives. After all, we’ve lived our lives and it’s what we do and how we think that determine who we are.

(when you look at the above passages, don’t regard it as a composition or an article, because if you do, you will be puzzled at the structure. It’s just a few words that come to my mind at the moment and I type them.)

  Have a nice day!

英语名著读后感4

On Sister Carrie Carrie was such an ordinary rural girl at the beginning of the story. Sitting on the seat of a bus she couldn’t help feeling exciting at the sight of the metropolis’ spectacle. She was impressed deeply by large crowd on the avenue the spacious square or tall buildings. Far more different from other heroines Carrie was not a plain pure angel like Snow-white nor was she brave enough to be a heroine of revolutionist or even a reformer nor was she so clever as to be a successful career woman who start from scratch.

What attracted her most after her entering this huge metropolis was the incredible fineries fashion shoes smart handbags displaying in the shop windows the jewellerys shining brightly behind the glass. She dreamed that one day she could wear all of these jogging gracefully into the most luxurious hotel with focused sights of admiration. And this was not merely a dream. Because she had large eyes which can earn others’ sympathy even love. She had wonderful figure which can win others’ hearts. However anything she got anywhere she reached had not come from her ambition.

Things happened and then she accepted. That’s what she had just done ? just to accept willingly from the bottom of her heart. She was not at all an evil woman who would give anything for the fortune or fame. However she would give uo something for a better life when her instinct defeated her intellect.

That was Carrie a girl had her own desire a human being just like many others in the realistic world. There’s one sentence written in chapter VIII:” When this jangle of free-will instinct shall have been adjusted when perfect understanding has given the former the power to replace the latter entirely man will no longer vary.” However how many people can go that further.

  《呼啸山庄》

My Feelings after reading Wuthering Heights

Wuthering Heights is a well-written tragedy of love. After reading the whole story, I would like to talk about the main characters of the story—Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff love each other very much, but they do not have the right attitude towards love, which leads to the tragedy.

In Catherine’s life, she made a very foolish decision---marrying to Edgar. In fact, her love for Edgar can never be compared to that for Heathcliff. She did so, because she thought the wealth of Edgar would be useful to Heathcliff. But in reality, it did not work. She did not have a good understanding of love, which is something pure and saint. If anyone add any purpose into love, love itself lost its meaning. Catherine’s wrong decision hurt two people who love her, and even destroyed the happiness of their offspring.

Heathcliff is a man full of retaliation. He loved Catherine very much, but what he did, on the contrary, added to the misery of Catherine. In my opinion, if he really loved Catherine, he should not walk into Catherine’s life again after his disappearance. Further more, after the death of Catherine, what Heathcliff did brought agony to Catherine’s daughter, as well as his own son.

After reading, I have a better understanding of love. If you love really someone, his or her happiness is the thing that most matters.

英语名著读后感6

This is a story about a special and ueserved woman who has been exposed to a hostile environment but continuously and fearlessly struggling for her ideal life. The story can be interpreted as a symbol of the independent spirit.

It seems to me that many readers’ English reading experience starts with Jane Eyer. I am of no exception. As we refer to the movie “Jane Eyer”, it is not surprising to find some differences because of its being filmized and retold in a new way, but the spirit of the novel remains----to be an independent person, both physically and mentally.

Jane Eyer was a born resister, whose parents went off when she was very young, and her aunt, the only relative she had, treated her as badly as a ragtag. Since Jane’s education in Lomon person, just the same as any other girl around. The suffers from being humiliated and devastated teach Jane to be persevering and prize dignity over anything else.As a reward of revolting the ruthless oppression, Jane got a chance to be a tutor in Thornfield Garden. There she made the acquaintance of lovely Adele and that garden’s owner, Rochester, a man with warm heart despite a cold face outside. Jane expected to change the life from then on, but fate had decided otherwise: After Jane and Rochester fell in love with each other and got down to get marry, she unfortunately came to know in fact Rochester had got a legal wife, who seemed to be the shadow following

Rochester and led to his moodiness all the time ----Rochester was also a despairing person in need of salvation. Jane did want to give him a hand, however, she made up her mind to leave, because she didn’t want to betray her own principles, because she was Jane Eyer. The film has finally got a symbolist end: Jane inherited a large number of legacies and finally returned. After finding Rochester’s misfortune brought by his original mad wife, Jane chose to stay with him forever.

I don’t know what others feel, but frankly speaking, I would rather regard the section that Jane began her teaching job in Thornfield as the film’s end----especially when I heard Jane’s words “Never in my life have I been awaken so happily.” For one thing, this ideal and brand-new beginning of life was what Jane had been imagining for long as a suffering person; for another, this should be what the audiences with my views hoped her to get. But the professional judgment of producing films reminded me to wait for a totally different result: There must be something wrong coming with the excellence----perhaps not only should another section be added to eich the story, but also we may see from the next transition of Jane’s life that “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you would get.” (By Forrest Gump’s mother, in the film “Forrest Gump”)

What’s more, this film didn’t end when Jane left Thornfield. For Jane Eyer herself, there should always be somewhere to realize her great ideal of being independent considering her fortitude, but for Rochester, how he can get salvation?

The film gives the answer tentatively: Jane eventually got back to Rochester. In fact, when Jane

met Rochester for the first time, she scared his horse and made his heel strained, to a certain extent, which meant Rochester would get retrieval because of Jane. We can consider Rochester’s experiences as that of religion meaning. The fire by his frantic wife was the punishment for the cynicism early in his life. After it, Rochester got the mercy of the God and the love of the woman whom he loved. Here we can say: human nature and divinity get united perfectly in order to let such a story accord with the requirements of both two sides. The value of this film may be due to its efforts to explore a new way for the development of humanism under the faith of religion.

Life is ceaselessly changing, but our living principles remain. Firmly persisting for the rights of being independent gives us enough confidence and courage, which is like the beacon over the capriccioso sea of life. In the world of the film, we have found the stories of ourselves, which makes us so concerned about the fate of the dramatis personae.

In this era of rapid social and technological change leading to increasing life complexity and psychological displacement, both physical and mental effects on us call for a balance. We are likely to find ourselves bogged down in the Sargasso Sea of information overload and living unconsciousness. It’s our spirit that makes the life meaningful.

Heart is the engine of body, brain is the resource of thought, and great films are the mirrors of life. In

dubitably, “Jane Eyer” is one of them.

英语名著读后感7

Here I am sitting on a couch alone, thinking about what I have just finished reading with tears of sadness filling my eyes and fire of indignation filling my heart, which revived my exhausted soul that has already been covered by the cruelty and the selfishness of the secular world for a long time. It is truly what I felt after reading Oliver Twist, written by the prominent British author Charles Dickens.

The resonance between me and the book makes me feel not only the kindness and the wickedness of all the characters in the novel, but what this aloof society lacks, and what I lack deep inside. These supreme resources I’m talking about right now are somewhat different from minerals, oil that we usually mention. They’re abstract like feelings, and some kinds of spiritual stimulation that all of us desire anxiously from one another —— love and care.

Those charitable figures whom Dickens created in the novel are really what we need in life. They showed love and care to others, just as the gentle rain from the sky fell upon the earth, which was carved into my heart deeply.

Mr. Brownlow is one such person.

The other day he had one of his elaborate watches stolen by two skilled teenage thieves, Artful Dodger and Charley Bates, and thought naturally it was Oliver, who was an orphan and forced to live with a gang of thieves, that had done it because he was the only one near by after the theft had taken place. Being wrathful, he caught Oliver, and sent him to the police station where the ill-tempered, unfair magistrates worked. Fortunately for him, Oliver was proved innocent by one onlooker afterwards. With sympathy, Mr. Brownlow took the injured, poor Oliver to his own home. There Oliver lived freely and gleefully for some months as if he were Mr. Brownlow’s own son. One day, however, Mr. Brownlow asked Oliver to return some books to the bookseller and to send some money for the new books that he had already collected. The thief Oliver once stayed with kidnapped him. After that he disappeared in Mr. Brownlow’s life. Searching for a while, Mr. Brownlow had to believe the fact that he had run away with his money. But dramatically, they came across each other again a few years later. Without hesitation, Mr. Brownlow took Oliver home for the second time not caring if he had done something evil.

Perhaps most of us would feel confused about Mr. Brownlow’s reaction. But as a matter of fact, this is just the lesson we should learn from him. Jesus said in the Bible. ―Forgive not seven times, but seventy-times seven.‖ Why is that? Because forgiveness is our ability to remove negative thoughts and neutralize them so our energy may be spent on doing what we came here for. We cannot move forward in our future if past issues cloud our thinking. Stop put Mr. Brownlow into the list of your models. Always give people a second chance no matter what they might have done. That’s also a substantial part of loving and caring others.

Then there are Mrs. Maylie and Rose, Oliver’s other benefactors. Maybe the reason they loved and cared Oliver was not because of forgiveness. In my point of view, it was trust. They had faith in Oliver when he was considered to be a filthy burglar who tried to break the front door of Maylie’s at midnight. But this wasn’t how these two ladies saw the whole thing. They denied Oliver’s crime immediately and listened attentively to Oliver’s own description of his miserable life. They were deeply touched by Oliver’s strong perseverance and astonishing vitality. Accordingly, they remedied Oliver’s body and heart and turned him into a different boy. He began to wear appropriate and clean suits which were tailor-made for him and receive education.

As far as we can see, it is trust that helps us all live together without precaution. Sometimes trust can even lead us to miracles, which we often expect to come about, so why not trust? Trust yourself, trust others, and you’ll salute miracles every single day.

In the novel, though the young Oliver again and again fell for conspiracies of those hideous thieves, who tried to torture Oliver’s body and poisoned Oliver’s heart intensely, he always lived on and tried hard to seek for his own life. Then I realized what supported him all through were actually beliefs. In most cases, what you believe is what you’ll become. Believe that you are unlimited, that you can do anything you commit to doing, and when you do, your accomplishments will know no bounds. You control your beliefs and that is how you ultimately control your life. It’s all dictated by your attitude.

In the final analysis, love and care contain numerous forms, there are love of forgiveness, love of trust, etc. but they all come from your beliefs in life. When someone tells you he’s deceived you, forgive him anyway, when someone tells you what he’s done, trust him anyway, and when you face adversities while chasing your dreams, think about your beliefs, then what hinders you will become a piece of cake in no time.

So find out ―Olivers‖ in your life and do as Mr. Brownlow and Mrs. Maylie do: love them and care them, which cost nothing but save much. They enrich those who receive, without impoverishing those who give. They can be certain smallest words or actions, but the memory of them sometimes last forever.

Charles Dickens said:―Love makes the world go around.‖ These immortal words have inspired and will keep on inspiring us to chant the melody of love and to say the prayer of care forevermore. Let us, therefore, enjoy life and treat other people lovingly. These principles are the roots and foundations of beliefs supporting this article and our mission together.

  英语名著读后感篇三:

Many people in the world are trying to find a perfect companion. Some of these may marry and not know what their new husband or wife is like. This kind of situation often leads to separation or hostility. Other situations may develop between two friends that stem from jealousy, desire for revenge, uncaring parents, etc. Emily Bront?'s Wuthering Heights displays several characteristics of destructive relationships. Three of these are uncaring parents, marriage without knowing the person, and jealousy.

Uncaring or unsympathizing parents are shown throughout this story to be an element of destructive relationships. Because Heathcliff gained all the attention from Mr. Earnshaw, Hindley became disassociated from his father. This separation continued until after Mr. Earnshaw had died.Another example is between Hindley and Hareton. Hindley became such a drunk and a gambler that he could not properly care for young Hareton. This led to a separation between Hareton and his father as well. One primary example of an uncaring parent is shown between Heathcliff and his son Linton.Heathcliff did not even want his son for anything except enacting a part of his revenge. This is shown by Linton's fear of Heathcliff and Heathcliff's enmity toward his son. Linton even says "... my father threatened me, and I dread him - I dread him!"(244) to express his feeling about Heathcliff. The hostility and separation between father and son in this book shows that uncaring parents can cause serious damage in relationships with their children.

This element of destructive behavior may stem from an unhappy marriage in which the husbands or wives don't know each other. This had happened between Isabella and Heathcliff. Isabella did not really know Heathcliff when she married him, but after she had married him she saw that Heathcliff was not a gentleman at all. To declare her feelings she wrote "Is Heathcliff a man? If so, is he mad? And if not, is he a devil? I shan't tell my reasons for making this inquiry; but I beseech you to explain, if you can, what I have married ..."(125). Another example of this is when Catherine married Edgar Linton. Although she had been happy at the beginning of the marriage, she thought having parties all the time was going to be fun. Yet, after a while, she became bored. She also realized that she loved Heathcliff more than Edgar and would always love Heathcliff. This enlightenment created separation between Edgar and Catherine during the final hours of Cathy's life. An additional marriage which was made that was doomed was the one between Catherine and Linton. Because this was a forced marriage, Cathy had not yet learned all she could about Linton.Because she did not know until after the marriage that Linton was selfish and inconsiderate, she became distressed and grew isolated in the house. These three failed marriages described in this novel show that knowing the person you will marry is very important. While these marriages took place, jealousy also took a hold in some relationships. One example of this is when Mr. Earnshaw starts to favor Heathcliff over his own son, Hindley. Because of this, Hindley becomes jealous of young Heathcliff and sets out to make Heathcliff's life a nightmare. Hindley's jealousy becomes evident when he says ,"... be damned you beggarly interloper! and wheedle my father out of all he has; only afterwards show him what you are, imp of Satan."(35). Jealousy was also found very notably in the relationship between Heathcliff and Edgar Linton.

英语名著读后感8

Literature is a dream far more than a bird. It is more beautiful than a flower. The wisdom that is brighter than the stars is a belief that we will never forget.

The book "journey to the west" is a bright pearl in the history of Chinese literature. This is a mythical story that tells the story of the four people of the Tang monk, the teachers and the apprenticeship.

"Journey to the west" characters in different personalities, such as Sun Wukong is resourceful, lazy and diligent shaceng journey. This book is very imaginative, and it has become one of the most popular classical names of the Chinese people.

The stories in the book are popular and zigzag. The true story of Monkey King left a deep impression on me.

This chapter tells that the four men and the apprenticeship met the robbers on the way to get through, and Sun Wukong had to kill them, but the master was angry with Sun Wukong again. Sun Wukong had to turn to Guanyin. Guanyin he asked Sun Wukong to wait here. Just as Sun Wukong waited, a little monkey impersonate Sun Wukong to hurt his master. Later, the two Sun Wukong met on the flower and fruit hill. Finally, Sun Wukong really beat the fake Sun Wukong, and he changed back to the prototype. It turned out to be just a little monkey. After the truth, Sun Wukong went on with the master to go to the West.

This book not only allows us to edify sentiment and strengthen our cultivation, but also makes our way full of sunshine and moistening the rain and dew of our hearts.

英语名著读后感9

When I first read Don Quixote's work, I thought that he was a funny vulgarwork. The nervous "brave spirit" of the protagonist is vividly displayed in thebook, which makes people look down upon him more and more. However, I think thatthe book asks for a certain truth. The essence of people's most basic is toachieve it recklessly for their own goals. From the book, we can see that Askinny Knight like a sorghum pole, the fantastic gentleman always shows hisintegrity and good nature in the process of realizing this, which is the highestspirit of human beings, but also because of his simplicity, he makes manyjokes.

The task of Don Quixote has become a famous model in the world forlearning. His character is complex. On the one hand, he is divorced from realityand always indulges in fantasy. He takes the estimation of his own strength andhis motherland, and fails repeatedly. But on the other hand, his motive is pureand kind. He is determined to eradicate the demons in the world, opposeoppression, eliminate the strong and support the weak. He is full of selflessand fearless spirit. For the question of the crooked knights, his comments arealways profound, clear and philosophical.

There are nearly 700 characters in Don Quixote's book, which describes awide picture of life, truly and comprehensively reflects the contradictions ofthe Spanish Kingdom at the beginning of the 16th century, condemns theshamelessness of the aristocracy, and expresses deep sympathy for the sufferingsof the people. I think it is this willingness that makes this work deeply lovedby people all over the world, so that it is loved by 54 countries and regions inthe world One hundred of the writers were selected as the best classics.

This is the charm of Don Quixote, and I am also deeply attracted by it. Iread it over and over again, and I have many aftereffects after reading it.

英语名著读后感10

Pride and Prejudice is my favorite novel, which impresses me for a longtime。 It describes a love story mainly between Elisabeth, who I like the best, and a rich and proud man, Darcy。

The story began with the arrival of a crowd of rich men who rent a housenear the Bennet。 In a ball, Elisabeth gave such a bad impression on Darcy’sfirst pride that she refused Darcy’s first proposal。 Darcy was so surprised byElisabeth’s refusal that he loved Elisabeth more deeply。 And Elisabeth’santipathy made Darcy realize his shortings。 He was not angry about Elisabeth’scensure, but also he changed his previous proud attitude。 During Elisabeth’stravel in Darcy’s manor。 Darcy was very nice to her uncle and aunt, differentfrom previous proud attitude。 When one of Elisabeth’s sisters ran away withWickham, Darcy helped Elisabeth find her sister and prevent her sister from theloss of reputation, with nobody knowing that it was he who helped the Bennet。 Somany changes in Darcy eliminated Elisabeth’s prejudice。 At last it end withtheir marriage。

Taking the daily life as its material, this story reflected the life andlove in a conservative and blocking England town。 It reflected the author’s viewabout marriage that it is fault to marry for property, money and status and itis also foolish to take these elements into account。 In fact Darcy’s pridemanifested the gap between their statuses。 Since his pride existed, there is noideal marriage between Elisabeth and Darcy。 From the different attitudes fromDarcy’s two proposals, it reflected the feminine pursuit of personalityindependence and right equality, which is a progressive character from the imageof Elisabeth。

英语名著读后感11

many people simply regard pride and prejudice as a love story, but in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. she perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave the people in her works vivid characters.

  许多人认为这只是一个爱情故事傲慢与偏见,但在我看来,这本书是对当时社会的例证。她完美地体现了金钱与婚姻关系时,给她的时间在她的作品生动的人物形象的人。

the characters have their own personalities. mrs. bennet is a woman who makes great efforts to marry off her daughters. mr. bingley is a friendly young man, but his friend, mr. darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feel superior. even the five daughters in bennet family are very different. jane is simple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. elizabeth is a clever girl who always has her own opinion. mary likes reading classic books. (actually she is a pedant.) kitty doesn’t have her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, lydia. lydia is a girl who follows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. when i read the book, i can always find the same personalities in the society now. that is why i think this book is indeed the representative of the society in britain in the 18th century.

the family of gentleman in the countryside is jane austen’s favourite topic. but this little topic can reflect big problems. it concludes the stratum situation and economic relationships in britain in her century. you can find these from the very beginning of this book.

the first sentence in this book is impressive. it reads: “it is a truth well known to all the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife”. the undertone is very clear: the foundation of the marriage at that time is not emotion but possession.

people always think that austen was an expert at telling love stories. in fact, the marriage in her book is not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. after reading this book, i know the truth is that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man.

i couldn’t forget how eager mrs. bennet wants to marry off her daughters. if you want to know why she is so crazy about these things, i must mention the situation in britain at that time. only the eldest son had the privilege of inheriting his father’s possessions. younger sons and daughters who are used to luxurious lives have no choice but marry a man or woman in possession of a large fortune to continue their comfortable lives. thus, we can see that getting married is a way to become wealthier, particularly for women without many possessions. jane austen told us that money and possession determined everything, including marriage and love in her century.

in “pride and prejudice”, the sister of mr. bingley strongly opposed his plan of marrying jane because the bennets don’t have many possessions and their social positions are much lower than them. from this, we can see there are a lot of obstacles for a not very rich woman to marry a wealthy husband. the society, the relatives would not allow them to get married.

in modern society, although the marriages of economic needs have decreased rapidly, the concept of “money determines everything” is still rooted in some people’s mind. a lot of parents try hard to interfere their children’s marriages. education background, possessions, jobs remains the main reason that may influence one’s marriage. marry for money is still a big problem in our society. we can’t help thinking: can money determine everything?

austen left this problem for us to think. the genius of jane austen lies in this perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. although austen was only 21 when she wrote “pride and prejudice”, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively. the plots in her works are always very natural. the development of the plot is as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. i think the depth of pride and prejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. today, her book still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at her time and in modern time.

  Jane Eyre

Jane was an orphan. She lived in her aunt’s house. Her aunt didn’t like her, so she took her to an orphanage. Jane studied in the orphanage and learned a lot of things. When Jane grew up, she worked as a governess in a big family and taught the child in this family. Bit by bit, Jane and her master Mr Rochester fell in love with each other. But the master had a wife. She was a madwoman. When Jane knew this, she left her teaching post. But she could not forget her master. So, at last, she visited her master. At that time, her master’ house was burnt down and he became handicapped. His mad wife died in the big fire. Jane decided to get married with him and look after him.

Jane Eyre found his real love and she was a happy woman. The most important thing is that Jane believed everybody were equal.

In my mind, though a person’s beautiful face can make others once feel that is attractive 。if his or her mind isn’t the same beautiful as the appearance, such as beauty cannot last, when others find that the beauty which had charmed them was only a falsity, it’s not true, they will not like the person any more. For a long time, only a person’s great virtue, a noble soul, a beautiful heart can be called as an everlsting beauty, just as Kahill Gibran had said, that ‘Beauty is a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted. There are great differences in our souls, and from that, we can know that whether a man is noble or ordinary, and even obscure, that is, whether he is beautiful or not.

  Title: The Little Prince

  Author: Antoine de St-Exupery

Main Characters: The little prince, the pilot, the rose, the fox, the snake, etc.

Despite I’ve not in my childhood yet, I still prefer reading fairy-tale stories. The tales, which accompany with me in my old days, often make me think of some precious experience and sensation which only belong to children. This summer I’ve review this kind of tale, which was published in 1940. It’s the world-famous fairy-tale by the French author, Antoine de St-Exupery, The Little Prince.

As many other fairy-tales, the outline of The Little Prince is not very complex. ―I‖, the narrator of the story, is a pilot whose plane has something wrong and lands in the Sahara. In this occasion, the pilot makes the acquaintance of the little prince, a little boy from another planet, the Asteroid B612. The little prince has escaped from his tiny planet, because he has some quarrel with a rose, which grows on his planet. In that case he left his own planet and took an exploration at some neighbor asteroids.

On his all-alone journey, the little prince meets different kinds of people, which includes a king, a conceited man, a tippler, a businessman, a lamplighter and a geographer. From these people he gets a conclusion that the grown-ups are very odd. Following the instruction of the geographer, he descends in the Sahara, on the earth.

Traveling on the earth, the little prince, who sees a garden of five-thousand roses, is overcome with astonishment and sadness, as he considers his rose is unique in the universe before. At that time a fox appears. The fox, who tell the little prince about the meaning of the word ―tame‖, becomes his new friend. At the time to say farewell, the fox makes him know that his rose is unique because she is his rose and tamed by him. From that the little prince begins to treasure friendship and be responsible to his rose.

At the anniversary day of his descent of the earth, rejecting the pilot’s advice, he goes back to his own planet by bite of a snake. ―It’s too far. I can not carry this body with me. It’s too heavy.‖ he said. He tells his friend, the pilot, he must be responsible for his rose, so he has to go back. At the end the author doesn’t tell us the ending directly. Maybe it’s more significant for us to imagine, and for more, think over.

One of the important characters is the rose. Growing on the planet, she is very beautiful, but her coquetry and vanity suffer the little prince a lot. In spite of they love each other, he soon becomes unhappy. On the time of his departure, he just knows she certainly loves him. The character of the little prince actually represents the children, and their native thoughts and deeds. On the contrary, the inhabitants on the other planets, such as the king, the businessman and the conceited man, they also reflect the defects in the grown-up’s world. The real theme of this fairy-tale with a little sadness, I guess, is the consequence of pure love and friendship in our lives, but not others ―matters of consequence‖ of the grown-ups.

Unbelievable, this little book moved me a lot. I seldom think about the true meaning of love and life before. Well, now I can say, with my short sixteen-year’s life experience, it’s like the stars in the sky that lit my heart. The little prince is not only an ordinary fairy-tale for children, but also for grown-ups, and our teenagers. Nevertheless, when I read this book, I feel a little sad – about ourselves, whom are losing more and more innocence.

英语名著读后感14

Ialways wanted to read this famous book - I wanted to read it when I was inschool, but I always missed each other and didn't see it. I finished readingtoday, but I was a little disappointed. I don't know why Cervantes created suchan image of a "madman".

Don Quixote was a declining aristocrat. He was addicted to Knights' novelsand became obsessed with them. He found a pair of armor and rode on a skinny oldhorse. He began his imaginary journey of supporting justice and wandering theJianghu. He is a pure and stubborn idealist, living in fantasy. In other words,he is a completely stubborn lunatic. He regarded windmills as giants, sheep asenemies, convicts as knights, and a common village woman as his princess.Repeatedly hit the wall, often head broken blood but unswervingly, infatuated. It's his servant sangqiu, who is fat and timid and greedy for a small price, whois still a normal man with flesh and blood. He will take advantage of hismaster's craziness and paranoia, play a little cleverness, and seize theopportunity to increase some benefits for himself. He is a real living man. Justlike this, two other living treasures, a pair of unimaginable masters andservants, staged a funny farce for us. One of the most amusing scenes is that inthe dark night, sangqiu is afraid to hold his master's thigh all the time anddare not give up. However, he is eager to describe courteously, which is reallyvivid and vivid.

The most touching ones in the book are some of Don Quixote's good friends. They never give up on Old Tang. They must try their best to cure his madness. They have used violent means - to put the old Tang in a cage and escort him homewith arms; they have used the means of burning books and "pit" Confucianism - toburn all the Knights' novels in the old Tang family and even seal the study;they have used the means of concealing the sky and the sea - to pretend to be aknight, to pretend to be a princess in distress and so on, all in order to pullthe old Tang from fantasy to reality. They really mean to their friends, especially for such a "terminally ill" crazy friend. They didn't give up, andeven were wrongly wounded and beaten by old Tang. Life can have such a fewfriends, enough!

Ijust don't know the background of the times. I don't know what theintention of this episode is that some sangqiu, who was governor of the islandfor several days, handled several cases cleanly and fairly, but was forced toresign at last.

英语名著读后感15

During the summer vacation, I savored Don Quixote again.

The author of this book draws a caricature of the knight errant through themiserable experience of the mad Don Quixote. You see, it's the mill windmill, but he thinks it's a giant with three heads and six arms. So he urges the horsespear to rush away, but it's thrown to the ground and can't move. Even so, whenthe servant Sancho came to tell him again that it was not a giant but awindmill, he argued that it was the magician who turned the giant into awindmill. There are countless such actions, which are very funny and makereaders laugh again and again. The author combines the description of thecharacters of different social classes with the description of the socialreality, vividly reappears the domineering of the noble gentlemen and the upsand downs of the common people.

Don Quixote was a little squire who was fascinated by reading Knights'novels all day. He imitated the ancient knights and went out to adventure anddid many ridiculous things. Although he is crazy, he hates tyranny and crueltyand opposes oppression. You see, once, his horse was injured by a group ofporters. Regardless of the other side's more than 20 people, he resolutelyfought with the other side and was finally knocked down to the ground. If I seemore than 20 men holding sticks, I'm sure I'm not brave enough to go out. I'lleither admit my misfortune or run away. And Don Quixote, knowing that the enemyis strong and we are weak, is still fighting for justice in the end. This spiritis really worth learning. Don Quixote is also very charitable, sympathizing withthe weak and upholding justice. Once, he caught a wronged prisoner. In order tolet him go, he reconciled and beat him once, although at last many prisoners ranaway.

Don Quixote is a complex and contradictory man. He has some other badhabits. He thinks he's right and doesn't listen to others' advice. Sangqiuadvised him not to cut down the windmill, but he didn't listen. At last, he waslifted up by the windmill and hurt. He was nervous again. When he saw a mancoming to him, he thought that the other side was going to fight him, so hekilled the other side with a knife.

The first time I read "Don Quixote", I wanted to laugh, and did ridiculousthings for Don Quixote. The second time I read it, I wanted to cry, for thedomineering of aristocratic gentlemen and the ups and downs of ordinary people. The third time will naturally think from these cries and smiles. So, what do youread from it? Let's talk about it together!
